Toronto, Ontario: The current upsurge in the Canadian dollar (today closing at 66.5 cents U.S.), combined with drastic drops in temperature has signalled a mass exodus of Canadians to warmer climates even for just a week or two.

President of Medipac International, producers of Snowbird Extravaganza - the largest show for travelling Canadians and Americans - is looking on the sunny and warm - side this season. "Canadians aren't giving up their trips to Florida. Their physical and mental well-being won't allow it. Despite the gloom and doom reports, in a survey conducted for the Canadian Snowbird Association (the largest travel association in Canada), we learned that the majority of their members are still travelling south, and some are actually staying down longer than last year."

Although the financial "worst" may be over, for many, belt- tightening will be the key to spending the winter away from home. Snowbird Extravaganza, produced by Medipac International has become a tradition of value among Canadian snowbirds and American winter residents. Held annually at the Florida State Fairgrounds, on January 22 and 23 Extravaganza will offer two days of information, education and entertainment, all geared to those 50+.

Medipac continues, "Without a doubt, the Canadian dollar is on the rebound, but people still have to keep an eye on their budget. We've earned a reputation for providing quality entertainment and fascinating speakers at the best possible price. Free. We're bringing in Branson, Missouri's superstars and, aside from parking, there's absolutely no charge for any of our entertainment. We've fielded so many calls regarding the economy this show is filled with tens of thousands of people who have survived war and a depression a declining dollar isn't going to keep them down. They've navigated their way around difficult situations before, and they're celebrating."

In addition to the Branson entertainment roster, Snowbird Extravaganza is home to more than 200 exhibitors presenting thousands of products and services. Feature areas at this year's event include Internet Café, Branson Video Theater, Seminar Center, Health and Wellness Center and a 6,000-seat Entertainment Center.

Snowbird Extravaganza, January 22 and 23, 1999, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Admission and entertainment are FREE, parking $5.
