Ontario’s Drug Benefit Program

As many of our Ontario members are aware Ontario snowbirds are allowed to remain out of Ontario for 212 days in any 12 month period without jeopardizing their government health coverage. The problem has always been that Ontario’s Drug Benefit Program only covered the cost of a 200-day supply of prescription medication, leaving a 12-day gap between the amount of time one was allowed to continuously travel and the amount of medication one could access. After years of lobbying on our part Ontario’s Minister of Health, The Hon. David Caplan recently wrote to us to announce changes that dramatically improve the situation.
