Many travellers are aware of the duty free limits. But few know that you can import more into the U.S. than the exemption amounts permit. You simply have to pay the tax!

Cigarettes, Cigars and Tobacco
Exemption Limit: One Carton or 200 Cigarettes per person
Import Duty: $3.40 USD per additional Carton

Beer, Wine or Spirits
Alcohol
Exemption Limit: 1 litre per person
Import Duty: $2.85 USD per additional litre

Beer
Exemption Limit: 24 Cans (one case) per person
Import Duty: $1.20 USD per additional case

Wine
Exemption Limit: 1.5 Litres
Import Duty: $0.20 per additional litre
