Get Your Passport!

Summer 2004 CSANews Issue 51  |  Posted date : May 10, 2007.Back to list

Although Canadian citizens are not required to show a passport when crossing the border into the U.S., we strongly recommend that you always carry it with you when you leave Canada.

Canadian passports are not renewable; you must reapply every time your passport expires. The process can take up to four weeks.

The summer is the perfect time of year to renew your passport!

Passport requirements:

  • Completion of a passport application form
  • Two identical passport photos taken within the last 12 months
  • Application form and one photo signed by a guarantor
  • Proof of Canadian citizenship (birth certificate or Certificate of Canadian Citizenship)
  • Any previous Canadian travel document issued within the last five years (passport, certificate of identity or travel document)
  • At least one document which supports your identity (driver’s licence, health card, old age security card, etc.)
  • The appropriate passport fee ($85 for a 24-page passport)
