Higher Risk of Food Poisoning for Antacid Eaters

If you regularly take antacids, you may be at higher risk for food poisoning, since antacids neutralize the stomach acid you produce. Your stomach acid reduces the amount of bacteria in the food you eat and it helps to prevent food poisoning.

So don’t order those raw oysters, wash thoroughly after handling raw meats and especially poultry…and if you find that you’re taking a lot of antacids, see your doctor. There may be an underlying medical condition, which may be easily fixed, for which you should be getting treatment.
