This may come as no surprise to our Winter Texans, but did you know that the state dish of Texas is chili? According to Texas' Web site, President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "chili concocted outside of Texas is a weak, apologetic imitation of the real thing."

Real chili lovers should check out the, "The Ladies' State Championship Chili Cook-off," held in Luckenbach, Texas, and the International Chili Cook-off, held in the West Texas town of Terlingua.

Every year, the state of Texas opens its heart to winter visitors, and the name Winter Texan is worn like a badge of honour by thousands. It's no wonder, then, that the state motto of "Friendship" has been used and demonstrated for 70 years.
