Ninety Per cent of Canadian Snowbirds Not Intimidated by Terrorism

I am impressed with the courage of Canadian Snowbirds! According to a survey conducted in late September and early October of U.S. winter travellers, a whopping 90 per cent of respondents interviewed said that they were still coming to their sunbelt home in the United States, despite the tragic events of September 11.

Of 70 telephone interviews, only three said "they had cancelled their plans," and only four said, "they had put their plans on hold." Of those still coming, all were apprehensive about it but felt that increased security measures would ensure a safe trip and a safe stay. In addition, all accepted the fact that they could be delayed at border crossings and airports. Four of the positive respondents had arranged other travel plans in October to Italy, Greece, Hawaii and Spain, prior to coming south, and were not changing those plans either.

Because the survey was conducted before the actual attacks on Afghanistan and the anthrax scare, we called 20 respondents again and asked if they had changed their minds. They all said "NO," but were somewhat more concerned and would watch the situation more closely.

Many of the respondents seemed to be more concerned about the shrinking Canadian dollar, volunteering that information without being asked.

By the time you read this column, most of you will probably have made the trip south and will be at your winter home. So please include yourselves with your fellow snowbirds who, "will not be intimidated by terrorists!"

Canada Clubs

We are in the process of preparing an updated Canada Club list and need your help. If you are involved with the administration of a club and want some publicity, please call me toll-free with the particulars, at 1-877-633-4722.

Placemats

Our dinner-table placemats are an even bigger success this year, as Canadians want to show their support for their American friends touched by the events of September 11. The placemats contain the crossed flags (symbolizing friendship) of the U.S. and Canada, and the respective national anthems in large print. They are available free (up to 400) by mail; simply call me in Auburndale, Florida at 1-877-633-4722.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Planning a Social Event or a Canada Day?

Last year, we provided more than 100,000 of them, pretty good service we're providing, eh? Hats off to the CSA, Medipac and AT&T, sponsors of the placemats!
