CSA News Issue 42 - President's Awards

Throughout the years, the Canadian Snowbird Association has been fortunate to work with a team of volunteers who have given unselfishly of their time and energies. This year, at Snowbird Extravaganza in Florida and at our Western shows, we presented our inaugural "President's Awards" an award that was created to recognize those members who have made outstanding contributions to the CSA.

Nominations for this award were submitted by members-at-large and by the board of directors. In the eight instances, each recipient has worked tirelessly on behalf of our association, and their outstanding volunteer service is an inspiration to us all. Glass sculptures of exquisite Aboriginal Canadian art were presented to each President's Award Recipient.

As his final duty as our CSA president, Bob Jackson presented the awards in Florida to Maxine and Bob McEwan and George and Dolly Del Grande. Our new President Ellen White took over the presentation honours in the western states, where the work of Bill and Irene Ogilvie and John Argyle was recognized in Texas, and the continuous volunteerism of Jerry Waterall was recognized in Arizona. Jim Matthews and Douglas Green received their awards for work in their home state of California.

Whether they are at home in Canada or "home" in the United States, the recipients of this year's awards are goodwill ambassadors for the CSA, second to none. They have always given us their full support and have made themselves available whenever we have asked for their assistance. The CSA is extremely fortunate to count these men and women among our members.

Without our corps of volunteers, we could not hope to accomplish all that we set out to do. Your efforts continue to keep our association strong and vibrant. Thank you!

And a Special Note:

We would like to congratulate Joan Kiuru for winning the Masters Trophy at the March, 2002 Sanibel Shell Show.

Joan also received a first-place, blue rosette ribbon and engraved plaque for her artistic entry of her paper Quilled Shells, in the Best Shell-Related Exhibit Hobbyist Section at the show. This is the second year in a row that she has won the top award.
