We attended the CSA program in Kitchener last night, and want to thank you for all the effort that went into presenting the program. We appreciated the updates from the sponsors, and enjoyed hearing from you and the tremendous work that CSA does on our behalf. We joined the organization last night, and look forward to being kept up-to-date on your progress. We enjoyed all the entertainment which was great, and especially Randy Brooks - what an awesome voice. We would love to see the show "The Promise" in Branson some time. I noticed that a prop person carried on extra equipment for everyone else, but Randy carried on his own - just curious why that happened. Thanks again for providing these shows, and for all the wonderful efforts CSA is accomplishing. Keep up the good work! Sincerely Randy believes that taking his own chair on stage helps to create a sense of intimacy with his audience. He is a wonderful person, and I believe that part of the reason is that he does not want to "bother" our hardworking staff. A warm welcome to our CSA family!
Dear Bird Talk, We were wondering why there are no Snowbird Lifestyle Presentations out in the west? We are new CSA members living in Edmonton, and would really like to go to one of these. Sincerely, At the October CSA board meeting we decided to have at least one, and perhaps two, Lifestyle shows in the west next year. Edmonton is one of the locations we are reviewing.
"Angels come in all shapes and sizes" A wonderful experience happened to us while travelling back north for the summer, we were on I-79 north of Pittsburgh when our car suddenly just quit in the middle of nowhere. No longer than three minutes after we pulled off the road, a fellow pulled over with a flatbed truck. This gentleman (Bud Wilson), after some discussion, decided he was going to load my car on his truck and haul me to a garage and get us back on the road. Bud, with our car on the back of his flatbed, drove all over the back roads of US I-79 looking for a garage that would handle our request for repairs. On this particular Friday morning everyone seemed to be busy. The first six places we went to could not even look at the car until Monday or Tuesday. Three phone calls to other repair shops also proved fruitless. At the seventh repair shop we had a change of luck. We were at Minners Garage, on Schaffer Rd. in Mercer, Pennsylvania. This gentleman said yes, he could fix our car. Now you have to remember, our car has been on the back of Bud's truck for about two or three hours, but Bud wasn't finished yet. When I asked Bud how much we owed him, he answered "Not a cent, but I'm not leaving here until your car is running and you're on the road." The people of Pennsylvania should be proud and honoured to have such a good Samaritan in their midst. That's why I say, "Angels come in all shapes and sizes." Thanks again, Bud! We sent Bud a copy of this CSA News to say thank you from all of us. A copy was also sent to the PA Governor's office and perhaps they will consider him for one of their humanitarian awards!
Dear Sir, In the winter 2000 issue you had an article under Health & Wellness pertaining to the procedure "percutaneous vertebroplasty" which was administered to your mother for an osteoporosis condition. I would be interested in knowing what the lasting results of this treatment were. Yours Truly, This is the toughest question to answer that we have received in a long time. My mother never complains about anything so I can only give you my observations. (a) Following the procedure there was a dramatic improvement (b) No apparent side effects of any kind (c) Prednisone, the cause of much of the osteoporosis problem, is no longer needed after many years of treatment (d) She now takes Fosomay and her bone density has increased slightly over last year All this, for a person in their mid-eighties, is quite remarkable to me. Just the ability to give up Prednisone makes the procedure of great value and her back also has the extra support of the cemented vertebrae. Would we do it again? Absolutely!
Enclosed please find a photo taken on our "Canada Day" in February at our golf club Martin Downs Golf & Country Club in Palm City FL. I wanted to thank you for the dinner table "Placemats" which were provided thru the "Snowbird" magazine. Bill Leeder did a great job of getting them to us on time, all 140 of them. This was the first "Canada Day" but will not be the last as it was a complete success with over 100 male attendees. Nine holes of golf followed by a great fun dinner & evening. We had trouble getting Canadian flags and mountie items but we did put lots of items together for the event. The "Mountie Ranger" was my husband Dick & he had a great time patrolling, gun in tow, the 9 holes. Next year we will be taking our Canadian items needed with us. Thank again for making the placemats available. Hope you will do it again. Margaret Innes We are glad to be part of your event. Please see page 17 for more details about the placemat program.
Dear Don Slinger, Regarding the gentleman who just received a disability pension through the Royal Canadian Legion. The Legion not only carries out great work for veterans but is very community conscious with monitory contributions to it. Its too bad this veteran had not been a member for so many years. He would have been aware many years ago that his disability was war related, therefore pensionable. All through the years in the Legion magazine they have stated these facts. Also when the veteran passes away his wife is eligible for a pension. Sir I hope you are an active Legion member now. Over many years through the Hong Kong Veterans, War Amps and the Legion I now receive a 100% pension. A proud Legion member. The whole tenure of my column was to advise veterans to become associated with Legions if they haven't been in the past. I know several veterans who don't belong to the Legion and consequently aren't up to date with the benefits. Hopefully my article and your letter will draw them closer together. You can stand tall for being a proud Legion member. Thanks for writing. Sincerely, |
