Urban Legends Reference PagesSick of getting e-mails asking you to sign petitions or warning you against a virus that turns out to be a hoax? Check out www.snopes.com to answer your questions. Titled the "Urban Legends Reference Pages," this site helps to sort out the difference between an actual virus and a hoax, and covers everything from the supposed dangers of flashing your lights at cars whose lights aren't on, to the pleas for help from the parents of dying children. They have also recently started a daily "Scam Report" page, which provides links to articles about Internet scams for which you should watch out. A simple search engine allows you to enter keywords and check to see if your well-meaning friends are sending you something that is worth your support, or a message that you should simply ignore and let your friends know the truth. Ontario Celebrates Seniors' MonthJune is Seniors' Month in Ontario, and the theme for 2004 is "Active in Body, Mind & Spirit." Seniors are invited to take part in the celebrations by attending or planning a Seniors' Month event, sharing stories or hosting a Seniors' seminar, which were developed to provide seniors with valuable information on healthy aging and healthy lifestyles in communities across the province. Each week, the Ontario Seniors' Secretariat website will feature stories about seniors who demonstrate Active Living and communicate vitality through Body, Mind & Spirit. For more information on events, please call 1-888-910-1999 (toll-free in Ontario only; 416-326-7076 in the local Toronto calling area) or visit their website at http://www.gov.on.ca/citizenship/seniors/english/seniorsmonth-04.htm. |
