We are not a travel magazine, but…both Sedona and the
Azores have been on my personal “bucket list” for a very
long time. I spent a few hours in and around Sedona many,
many years ago and always promised myself that I would
return for a proper visit. My friend Bob, who has travelled
extensively, says that it is his favourite place in the whole
world.
The Azores have held a fascination for me since I was a
child. As a semitropical series of volcanic islands in the
middle of the North Atlantic, I can almost hear the sirens
calling me. The stories of great ocean passages, Spanish
and Portuguese treasure ships, and pirates and, perhaps,
even Columbus on his way to discover the NewWorld, were
compelling images to have been implanted in my early
memory. Bermuda has a very similar appeal for me and I
have been there many times, usually to play in their famous
bridge tournament. If you are a bridge player, I recommend
that you put Bermuda on your “bucket list” immediately.
But I have not made it to the Azores. Yet.
You will find lots of information about these two
destinations a little further on, and I hope that you will
enjoy our summer issue.
Our best wishes and prayers are with the flood victims all
across theWest who are experiencing devastating losses.
The Elbow and Bow Rivers in Calgary, for instance, are at
five times their normal flow rate and there are already
billions of dollars in damages. TheWest is strong…and the
people are stronger…but they do need your help right
now. Do what you can.
