Don’t Become
a Couch Potato

Sitting down in my easy chair last evening to catch up on a
few medical journals, I found myself reviewing some recent
research confirming the risks associated with leading a sed-
entary life. While keeping active at all ages has been strongly
advocated by experts for years, recent research has revealed
that sitting too much can be detrimental to your health, and
so can being too inactive generally. Persons of all ages are
increasingly sitting, whether it be while studying or being
taught (along with “screen time” when young), working at a
desk all day, TV and computer time at night for working adults
or, in the case of seniors, watching TV, spending time on the
computer, reading or snoozing.
