Toronto, Ontario: On February 20, 1999, the Palm Springs Convention Center will play host to thousands of American winter residents and Canadian snowbirds, all celebrating a camaraderie unique to those enjoying a mature lifestyle.

The second annual California Snowbird Extravaganza, based on the premise of Information, Education and Entertainment has in a very short time, become a greatly anticipated event for those wintering in the Palm Springs area. Not only an information forum for those spending up to six months away from home, it's also an opportunity to enjoy unparalleled performances by some of Branson, Missouri's greatest superstars.

"This past year, the Canadian dollar has taken a beating," says Bob Jackson, president of the Canadian Snowbird Association. "Many short-term travellers stayed home for the season. Long-term travellers or snowbirds still kept to their plans. For many, it's a matter of taking a proactive approach to their health and well being. They feel better in the sun. Their financial impact on their winter communities is profound, and they are equally giving of their time. Volunteerism is at an all-time high."

Congresswoman Mary Bono of California's 44th Congressional District will be a keynote speaker at the event. "We are exceptionally pleased that someone of this stature recognizes the importance of snowbirds in their winter communities," said President of Medipac International Extravaganza's producer. "By having Congresswoman Bono join us, she's sending a very positive message to the snowbird community."

Among the many topics to be discussed are the recent changes to Ontario, Canada's drug, residency and election rules. Many of California's snowbirds are from Canada's largest province, and these changes will greatly ease their future travel plans.

"Above all else, California Snowbird Extravaganza is a great opportunity to get together with old friends, and meet up with new ones. There are no borders at an Extravaganza."

California Snowbird Extravaganza takes place on Saturday February 20, 1999 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The event begins at noon with performances and speakers throughout the afternoon. Admission is free, parking is $4.
