In 2006, the most frequent criminal code offence in Canada was theft of $5,000 and under, which was based on a population rate of 1,888 per 100,000. Breaking-and-entering and assault (levels one to three) were the next most common offences in Canada, with rates of 767.8 and 734.8 respectively. The least common crime in Canada in 2006 was homicide, based on a population rate of 1.9 per 100,000.
