We've all heard of the guy who ran in marathons and never smoked a day in his life succumbing to a massive heart attack. However, research shows that nine out of 10 people who suffer from heart-related events fall into the "four risk factors" category. That is, they smoke, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes. This dispels the popular belief that half of the people who experience heart problems have no risk factors whatsoever.

If you don't suffer from any of the four major risk factors, then you have already greatly reduced your chances of heart-related problems. If you DO suffer from one or more of these factors, it's time to re-evaluate your lifestyle. Ask your doctor to help in the quest to improve your health. What's important to remember is that these risk factors are preventable. You have the control!
