Get your flu shot – Make it a double-double!

It is highly recommended for persons over 50 to receive the flu vaccine.  The fall is the best time to get the shot, because you beat the curve of the disease's transmission throughout society. However, if you haven't received it yet, it is helpful to get the flu shot at anytime throughout the winter.

Recent studies have shown that persons over the age of 65 can benefit from a high-dose flu shot.  As we age, we are more susceptible to infections and less responsive to vaccination.  A flu shot dose four times stronger than a regular dose can increase the production of flu fighting antibodies by 30-80% in most people; a bigger dose means better protection.
