Canada/US Border Update

CSA Member Advisory – Recently, Canada and the United States agreed to extend the land border restriction on all non-essential travel until October 21, 2020. This means that travel for tourism purposes will not be permitted at any land border crossing until at least October 21, 2020, but we anticipate this closure may well extend into 2021.

In a unanimous decision, the Ontario Divisional Court in Canadian Snowbirds Association Inc. v. Attorney General of Ontario struck down part of Ontario Regulation 259 which terminated OHIP’s Out-of-Country Travellers Program (OOCTP). In that decision, the Court found that, under the Ontario Health Insurance Act, the Lieutenant Governor in Council does not have the legal authority to enact regulations which would revoke the OOCTP.

CSA Member Advisory – Effective April 16th, the Government of Canada is requiring all travellers returning to Canada from abroad to provide Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) with a “credible quarantine plan.”

Updated Guidelines for Returning Canadians

The Government of Canada has recently provided clearer guidelines for Canadian travellers returning home from abroad. If you have recently returned to Canada and you have no symptoms , you must QUARANTINE (self-isolate) yourself. This is mandatory. You are at risk of developing symptoms and infecting others.
