Bird talk - Le Jaseur
Dear Bird Talk:

Re: Travel with pets

I found, to my chagrin, that WestJet, the company I prefer to use, will not take an animal between May and October. However, Air Canada does.

(To Ron Steeves, my maiden name is Doris STEEVES - hi cousin!!!)

Thank You!

Doris Layton,
Mississauga, ON

Response:
Ed: We checked, and Mrs. Layton is absolutely correct. WestJet does not accept pets in checked baggage from April 1 to October 31, as extreme heat during the summer months can pose a significant health risk to pets.

Also, due to limited room (and weight) during the heavy holiday travel season, no pets are allowed to travel between USA, Mexico and many Caribbean destinations between December 15 and January 6, inclusive. If you are returning by air after April 1, or are thinking of coming home for Christmas, be forewarned.

For those who do not know, Ron Steeves is the CSA director for Atlantic Canada and is involved in several of the provincial picnics in Southwest Florida.
