You may or may not be aware that the vast majority of Canadian snowbirds are continuing their annual sojourns to the southern United States. Apparently, old habits die hard. There is also a contingent of winter expats who are choosing to explore other warm-winter countries with their elbows up. That’s fine, and we should all endeavour to respect the choices that our friends are making ‒ whether we agree with them or not.

To that end, CSANews is pleased to continue to offer content that highlights “alternative” winter destinations for our readers to consider, whether it be for a short stop, on a cruise, or for a longer seasonal visit.

We are also excited to introduce two new writers to our publication. First, Dr. Elaine Dembe, who has built a wellness practice in Toronto on the very subject of longevity. Her column sheds light on simple, yet effective steps that we can take to live longer, hopefully.

Second, Steve Paikin is a well-known journalist who has served as a Queen’s Park correspondent, daily news host of a current affairs show on CBC Newsworld and, most recently, retired as the anchor of The Agenda with Steve Paikin, on PBS station TV Ontario. Steve offers balanced insights regarding current affairs in North America, and we are pleased to share these with you.

Once we get into the habit of avoiding winter weather in Canada, it is hard to stop. A few of us tried to stay in Canada last year but, when winter crept in as she always does, many just packed up and headed south.
